Palmerola International Airport (XPL), also known as Comayagua Aiport, is the new and modern air terminal for Tegucigalpa and the central region of Honduras. It started operations in December 2021 and replaced the old Toncontín Airport operations in Tegucigalpa, Honduras’s capital.

Private vehicles, regular taxis, airport taxis, and hotel-provided shuttles are the most common ways to move to and from Palmerola Airport. Uber is available in San Pedro Sula, including coverage to and from the airport.

  • Airport Shuttle: Palmerola Connect is the free bus service connecting Tegucigalpa and Comayagua provided by Palmerola Airport. The buses provide internet access, luggage storage, TV, air conditioning, and bathrooms. Service runs daily at 5 am, 9 am, and 11 am between Toncontin Airport (TGU) and Palmerola Airport (XPL).
  • Buses: Transportes Cinco Estrellas provide frequent service between Toncontin Airport (TGU) and Palmerola Airport (XPL). The airport is located by the CA-5 highway connecting important cities and communities and is well-served by other transportation companies.
  • Taxis serve mainly at the airport, waiting just outside the terminal building. Some use sedans, SUVs, and vans; make sure what type of vehicle makes sense for your party and luggage size. Negotiate your rate before you get into the taxi.
  • Hotel-provided: some hotels provide either a complimentary or paid airport shuttle. If you don’t have a rental car or don’t want to get into a taxi, make sure you organize this in advance, they will wait for you at the arrivals area with a sign with your name.
  • Car rental: several international, national, and local options offer car-rental services. Most of them have offices inside the airport. Check-in

It’s recommended to arrive at the airport in plenty of time before the flight, as there may be long lines and security checks to complete. As of December 12th, 2023, the “Pre-Check” is no longer required for either nationals or foreign nationals to enter or exit the country, except citizens from Nicaragua who still need to fulfill the requirement using the form at https://prechequeo.inm.gob.hn.
  • Visa requirements are determined by the passport you are traveling with and the trip duration. Travelers from the United States, Canada, and most countries in the European Union do not require one to enter the country.
  • Valid airline ticket
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or test is not required for check-in.
